Swordfish Lead Detection

WOW. Congratulations to TEAM Electro Scan Inc. for this amazing honor, and the only IoT supplier to be represented in the water industry. Replacing legacy acoustic sensors and visual inspections with Electro Scan’s pressurized and unpressurized leak detection tools is happening, worldwide.

More awards coming for Electro Scan’s SWORDFISH LEAD DETECTION device. Cities are calling after spending big bucks on desktop analytics and predictive models that couldn’t provide accurate identification of lead, copper, galvanized or plastic pipe. Still using CCTV or AI-CCTV?

Are you still using CCTV (or AI-CCTV) to locate & quantify your infiltration? Accept repairs as leak-free? Certify #CIPP liners as watertight? Time to put away the TV cameras and adopt machine-intelligent technology to automatically locate and quantify all leaks.

Congratulations to Christopher Jones and John Appenzeller of Hillsborough County, Florida, on the County’s new purchase.

The comparison of CCTV (using NASSCO, Inc. Standards) and Electro Scan Inc. were stunning. No wonder cities experience recurring flooding and sewer overflows after selecting repairs and acceptance based on visual inspections, like CCTV.

First Machine-Intelligent Solutions Automatically Assess Leaks and Pipe Wall Condition

Want to stop this from happening in your city? Stop using old technology, like CCTV cameras or Acoustic sensors that neither can ‘see’ leaks or ‘hear’ where pipe walls are permeable. Electro Scan Inc.‘s FOCUSED ELECTRODE LEAK LOCATION #fell is the industry’s first machine-intelligent solutions that automatically assesses leaks and pipe wall condition in both gravity and pressurized sewers to provide unambiguous and unbiased results.

And, make sure you do not use Acoustic sensors or CCTV cameras to approve repairs, rehabilitation, and relining #CIPP projects. They can’t. Even worse, we are seeing some relined sewers leaking worse AFTER rehabilitation than BEFORE due to poorly reconnected sewer taps that are temporarily covered during the lining of a sewer. WOW!

Stay tuned for our results from Polk County’s Force Main Inspection Project. Data intelligence that acoustic balls or visual cameras (or AI) can never deliver for actionable results. Machine Intelligence (MI) is the answer.

EPA recognizes ‘Electrical Resistance Testing’ to locate and inventory lead service lines.

It’s official. The EPA now recognizes ‘Electrical Resistance Testing’ to locate and inventory lead service lines. Electro Scan Inc. is pleased to announce that the August 4, 2022, USEPA Guidance to Help Communities Locate Lead Pipes that can Contaminate Drinking Water features ‘electrical resistance testing’ to locate and inventory lead pipes.

Identified as an emerging method, ‘Electrical Resistance Testing’ is an alternative to CCTV Cameras, Desktop Analytics, Hydro Excavating, Predictive Models, and Potholing for unambiguous and unbiased testing results.

Use of Satellite Leak Detection (that actually requires others to find the leaks) and Artificial Intelligence

A cautionary note from Hugh Chapman on the use of Satellite Leak Detection (that actually requires others to find the leaks) and Artificial Intelligence to ingest acoustic leak detection signals that exponentially increase the number of false-positives.

The same buyer’s remorse is being observed in applying AI to CCTV videos. If CCTV cameras can’t tell where pipes leak, then neither will AI. Defeating the claim that AI will improve rehabilitation selection. It does not.

Clearly, private equity and venture capital investors that have funded these companies did fully understand the needs of the water market and the rigorous benchmarking that is undertaken before solutions are Accepted.

Word of these kind of project failures travel fast.

Thanks Hugh Chapman for posting.

Electro Scan Inc. is working with dozens of U.S. and Global water companies that succumbed to these technologies, now having trouble delivering actionable (i.e. where to fix and in what priority) data to their customers and regulators.

Prioritize Leaks by Severity

Is your utility struggling to get actionable data (i.e. prioritize leaks by severity and know where to dig) using acoustic sensor, data loggers, helium tracers, electro-magnetic sensors, fiber optic cables, ground penetrating radar, lasers, or satellite ‘points of interest’?

Meet Brad Weston and Chris Chesworth today and tomorrow at #GlobalLeakageSummit in London, England.

After years of relying on legacy leak detection techniques that can’t locate every pipe leak in a single pass or determine the liters per second of each leak found to calibrate to DMA losses, British water utilities are learning how Electro Scan Inc.‘s non-acoustic sensors using low voltage electric current (i.e. not EM) precisely locates all leaks to within 1cm accuracy.

High pitched sounds might be heard locating a single leak, but the higher the pitch the smaller the leak. More than likely missing the larger leaks that are already ponding around the pipe and unheard by listening devices.

Benchmark comparisons show acoustic listening devices can miss 80-100% of leaks in pipes, found by new Electro Scan technology.

Don’t keep digging up the same pipe, when Electro Scan can assess the pipe correctly the first time.

Learn more about DELTA, TRIDENT, and SWORDFISH (Leaks and Buried Lead Pipe Location) and how they can help your utility achieve accurate pipe condition assessments, quantify water losses, and certify joints in new pipes, including plastics, as watertight.

Climate Change and Need for Resilient Infrastructure

The continued reliance on CCTV cameras to detect sewer leaks is finally catching up to cities in Australia. Time to upgrade to new technology to ensure our sewer and storm networks are water tight.

Climate change and need for resilient infrastructure is shining a new light on the consequences of using legacy technologies to address complex environmental and engineering issues and lackluster results when AI is applied to older technologies that don’t fundamentally deliver actionable data.

Cleantech Council at Sensors Expo & Conference

Thank you Liz Kerton and Kyle (Kotaro) Sugiyama for hosting the Cleantech Council session at today’s 2022 Sensors Expo & Conference at the San Jose Convention Center. As Liz Kerton said, “You can’t fix it until you measure it.”

This is a key issue in today’s water business with a plethora of IoT sensors that fail to deliver the precision and actionable data needed to identify, quantify, and recommend repairs. Unable to provide “X” marks the spot locational precision, water utilities at today’s session questioned the financial return of placing sensors on every corner (e.g. a key valves, hydrants, or pressure zones).

Given that acoustic sensors miss 80-100% of leaks given ambient noise, high groundwater conditions, customer usage, erratic flows, unsteady pressures, and changes in pipe materials, a new business paradigm has arrived utilizing machine-intelligent non-acoustic sensors.

ESPECIALLY to locate and confirm lead pipe.
