Sacramento-based Leak Detection, Smartphone, and Cloud Application Developer, Selected in Statewide Competition
Chico, California USA, June 27, 2013 – Today, Electro Scan Inc. won the 2013 Award for ‘Best New Product Innovation’ in Cleantech at the 2nd Annual Sierra Nevada Innovation Challenge competition.
Presented by Innovate North State, the Sierra Nevada Innovation Challenge competition was held at the Sierra Nevada Brewing Company’s “Big Room” auditorium in Chico, California.
A GLOBIE Award was presented in each of five industry categories, including Food and Ag, Web and Information Technology, Cleantech, won by Electro Scan Inc., Manufacturing, and Healthcare.
The Sierra Nevada Innovation Challenge is the only statewide Most Innovative Product Competition focused principally on California businesses located outside of San Francisco, Silicon Valley, Los Angeles and San Diego. Each finalist was given 6-minutes to explain how their new product changes the world, an industry, people’s lives or the environment in a positive, meaningful way.
In March 2013, Electro Scan Inc. was awarded the prestigious Joseph L. Abbott, Jr. Award for Product Innovation by the National Association of Trenchless Technologies (NASTT) at the organization’s No-Dig event.
Over 70 industry experts from throughout California will be on-site serving as judges including CEOs, media representatives, angel investors, venture capitalists, university and government officials and corporate executives.
Judges for the Cleantech Industry Sector, included:
– Jessica Appelgren, Saatchi and Saatchi
– Debra Atlas, Environmental Reporter & Industry Blogger
– Ken Brown, Avisen Securities, Inc.
– Denise Gitsham, 7second Strategies
– Ed Grauenheim, Workforce Management Magazine
– Randy Hawks, Claremont Creek Ventures
– Bob Medearis, Founder, Silicon Valley Bank
– Michael Ottolia, Financing Industry Expert
The American Society of Civil Engineers estimate capital needs for the U.S. wastewater infrastructure of $298 billion over the next twenty years with aging pipes discharging 900 billion gallons of untreated sewage, each year.
Judges found that Electro Scan represents a breakthrough in the multi-billion dollar sewer inspection market, overhauling how sewer utilities identify and prioritize pipe defects. More reliable than visual inspection techniques using legacy closed-circuit television cameras, Electro Scan was viewed as a disruptive technology gaining global acceptance.
According to Innovate North State Managing Director Jon Gregory, who serves as the Executive Producer of the event, “the Sierra Nevada Innovation Challenge represents a once-a-year hotbed of the best innovation occurring in emerging markets of California.” He continued, “We were impressed with Electro Scan’s game-changing innovation and are honored to have the company compete as one of the finalists.”
“We were delighted to be recognized by the judges,” stated Chuck Hansen, Electro Scan’s CEO and Presenter. “Electro Scan is being consistently recognized as a groundbreaking technology that truly advancing owner’s ability to correctly assess their wastewater collection infrastructure. Electro Scan’s ability to evaluate existing, newly repaired, and relined sewer for defects, leap-frogs legacy visual inspection techniques that has been around for almost sixty years.”
